Felt Christmas Stockings

How to create your own felt Christmas stockings

Hanging Christmas stockings is an age-old tradition throughout many homes in the world. This year, don't spend a lot of money on fancy designer stockings, but create your own felt Christmas stockings for a fun, crafty and festive project that the whole family will enjoy!

What you'll need:

Step one:

Be sure to buy enough materials to make all of your felt Christmas stockings. Also, keep in mind the size of each stocking, and that will help you determine how much felt to buy. Purchase all of your thread, embellishments, and extras, too.

Step two:

Using the cardboard or heavy paper, make a template for your felt Christmas stocking. First draw the shape, then cut it out carefully.

Step three:

Sew the front and back of your felt Christmas stocking together with the needle and thread, and remember to leave the top open! For a more secure stitch, you may want to use a sewing machine for this step.

Step four:

For a crafty effect, blank stitch around the sewn edges of your felt Christmas stocking with embroidery floss. Make the stitches just a little bit larger than the seam allowance.

Step five:

Your felt Christmas stocking isn't complete until it's hung, so you need to make a hanger! Cut a three-inch by half-inch piece of felt for each stocking. Fold this felt strip in half and sew into the upper corner of your stocking for the hanger.

Step six:

Here's the fun part of making your own felt Christmas stocking! Take your craft glue and adhere all of your fun, festive embellishments to your stockings. For a more finished look, you can try sewing buttons on if you're using them.
